Delight Your Kids With Flyover City Tours in Apple Maps

by ParentCo. February 26, 2015

My family is headed to NYC for three nights. We love city trips, and in my opinion nothing beats the Big Apple. We'll post our "72-hours in NYC for curious kids" itinerary when we return next week. My Parent Co. teammate Jackson Latka suggested I show my kid the NYC City Tour Flyover in Apple Maps. Flyover brings you on a photo-realistic, 3D aerial tour of various cities. In New York it starts at the Statue of Liberty, then swings by the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building and various other landmarks. You can leave the automated tour and explore the city by zooming, panning, tilting, and rotating. You feel a bit like Superman. Then again, it's also immersive enough to trigger a bit of vertigo. Flyover in Maps requires iOS 8 for iPhone or iPad or Mac OS X Yosemite (the desktop version is fantastic). It's available for dozens of cities in the US and abroad. Here's a list of available Flyover cities. To launch a Flyover Tour, click the pin the in city, as seen below.
