A Few of Our Picks for the 20th Annual Webby Awards

by ParentCo. April 07, 2016

We're not the only ones hoping to win a Webby over here!

Hundreds of other nominees in dozens of categories are currently in the race to claim the internet's top honor. By the looks of it, we're in good company.

I mean, it's not every day a photo of your team rubs shoulders with Kylie Jenner. (Ok, I use the phrase "good company" with a bit of a heavy hand. But Jimmy Fallon is in there too! And Beyonce! BEYONCE. Come. On.)

We've been casting votes for some of our personal favorites, which include, but are not limited to:

General Website: Email Newsletter

Caitlin Dewey Caitlin Dewey is the Washington Post's digital culture critic, and author of the most welcome newsletter in my inbox (that is not a euphemism.) Links I'd gchat you if we were friends is a daily round up of the most compelling/bizarre/worth talking about things she stumbles upon in her internet travels. More often than not, I click on every single one. Because she's my people. (Funny, smart, and appreciative of a good cat on a trampoline GIF, to be clear.) She's up against some big dogs, and according to her, she's only ever won three awards, and two were just for showing up. She deserves this. Cast your vote here.

Online Film and Video: Best Web Personality/Host

Kid President Oh, Kid President. In an internet full of doom and gloom, this adorable, optimistic and inspiring squish in a suit is the equivalent of a laundry basket full of puppies. I've been a fan of this ray of light since Soul Pancake released the first video, "A Pep Talk From Kid President to You." (Which put an end to my 'not crying in public' streak.) Played by Robby Novack, Kid President is exactly the sort of YouTube star we need more of. I mean, who doesn't need the daily kick in the pants of, "What if Michael Jordan had quit? Then we wouldn't have Space Jam. And I loooove Space Jam," or the solid life suggestion, 'Treat everyone like it's their birthday." What he really deserves is a Nobel Peace Prize. Online Film and Video: Entertainment

The Late Late Show with James Corden- Carpool Karaoke There's really nothing celebrity related that brings me more joy than those "they're just like the rest of us schmoes" sort of moments. And you know what? It doesn't matter if you're a Grammy winning ass kicker- being buckled into a car seat makes foolish dancers of us all. I've never felt closer to Adele than after watching her episode of Carpool Karaoke. For one thing, she looks EXACTLY like I do when I car sing "Hello." (Ask anyone who's ever pulled up next to me at a red light.) Second, I've been accused of being the loudest laugher in the Parent.Co office and guess what? SHE AND I HAVE THE SAME CACKLE. We could totally be BFFs, and for that little nugget of knowledge, I'd cast my vote 500 times if possible. Cast your vote here.

Mobile Sites and Apps: Family and Kids

Professor Astro Cats Solar System Nothing sways me to extend my kids' screen time quite like watching them become completely engrossed in this brilliant app. With animations, music, and games, this is the most fun lesson on the solar system you're going to find. Plus, it's as informative and engaging as it is design-nerd satisfying. (Seriously, kids. Don't schlock up the iPad with those awful slushie making garbage apps.) Long time fan, first time voter. Online Film and Video Comedy: Individual short or episode

Fight Club for Kids Despite the fact that jokesters on Twitter have beaten the Fight Club joke format to a bloody pulp, Mashable went ahead and breathed some life back into it with this gem. Chuck Palahniuk, the furthest thing from a children's author, reading a "kid friendly" version of his famous work is just the sort of joke that really lands for me. Cast your vote here.
